For the average working Aussie, the lead up to Christmas is often a mixture of work and last minute present buying. Half the time, we’re so busy trying to wrap up that project, see that last customer or cram in some time to buy presents that we kind of feel like Christmas is more of a chore than a season of joyful. Sound familiar?

If Christmas can sometimes be a bit of a headache for you, here are some tips to help you relax and feel good this Christmas.

Shopping blues

Make the most of a shopping trip with a half hour break – enjoy a coffee and a magazine or go get a half hour massage. Little treats on the side that are all about you will help you relieve a lot of the stress. If you’re working, make sure you go out to lunch or take a break in the sun. Or see if you can leave 20 minutes earlier for a glass of wine or that mini-manicure you’ve been wanting. If you absolutely can’t stand the thought of shopping out, trying buying ‘easy’ gifts such as Christmas hampers, toys, jewellery, DVDs and books from stores online – from the comfort of your own lounge!

Give a Little

Always been meaning to do this but just never gotten around to it? It may sound like yet another task you have to do, but giving just a little to those in need in Christmas time can be rewarding and it can make you feel great about yourself. You can donate directly to a cause or buy gifts from places like the Oxfam shop or you can even purchase things like charity Christmas cards or wrapping paper designed by the disabled.

Pamper Yourself

Surely in all the things that you have to do during Christmas time, you can find even just 1 or 2 hours to treat yourself to a pampering session at a nearby spa or salon. Massages, facials, body muds are the perfect way to unwind. If you simply can’t get away from the stress or if you’ve got kids, try a mind-calming bath complete with music, candles and bath oils. If you’re more of a ‘do-er’ than a ‘relax-er’, make room for that Yoga or aerobics session – even if it’s only for 45 mins, it’ll leave you feeling refreshed and full of energy.

Do something romantic

Whether you’re a couple or a big family with five kids, you should make time to do something romantic with your partner. It might be as simple as a cosy drink by the pool together or a dinner out in your favourite restaurant. Again, if you’ve got kids or if you’re surrounded by in-laws and relatives, wait til they’re in bed and snuggle up on the couch together or better yet, light some candles in your bedroom and get kissing. Dedicating just a little bit of time to your relationship will make you feel great and will do wonders for your romance amidst all the bedlam.

Spend time with your kids – or not!

If you’re a workaholic, Christmas can be a magical time when spending it with your kids. Turn it into a treat for both you and them and make an effort to do something with them that you normally wouldn’t do or get them to do something that’s also going to relax you. Trips to the movies, beaches, local swimming pools and parks are great for this. At home, you can try having a backyard camp or doing some arts and crafts.

If you’re a stay-at-home or a part-time Mum or Dad and you want a “kid break” see if they’re willing to head to a day or week-long camp with their friends, which will give you a little stretch of peace and quiet to enjoy.

Christmas is an occasion that involves exchange of gifts. Visiting the market will definitely help you come across wide varieties of items that you can present to each other on this auspicious occasion. But there are certain things with the help of which the day of Christmas can be made even more special. Christmas gifts are always expected to be the best for both the donor and the recipient. The gift market has always remained the main focus for the gift buyers whenever it came to giving gifts to the individuals.

Have you ever thought of presenting something unexpected to the recipients in order to surprise them? Free gifts cards are what will surely surprise the recipients if you present hem on Christmas. The concept of these cards has appeared to be of great importance for those who avail its benefits. There are many brands that offer the loyalty programs to their customers. If you are a regular customer of any such brand and you have receive free gif cards this Christmas, you can use it as the best Christmas gifts for your near and dear ones.

With the help of the free gift cards as Christmas gifts, the recipients will get a chance to receive the best prizes or select something that they would like to have. Most of these cards do not allow the customers to make their own selection; rather they have a fixed price associated. But there are many brands, which allow the card holders to select the things of their choice. As a result, the free gift cards help them completely to serve their essential needs and requirements. Thus, if you want to make you gift the best for the recipients, these cards will surely help in doing so.

One thing that you must note is that you are not only helping the recipients by presenting free gift cards as the best Christmas gifts to them, but you are indirectly also letting that brand get immense popularity. The name of the brand will travel from one person to another, thereby becoming the best for all. Free gift cards, therefore, must be preferred as one of the most precious Christmas gifts for the recipients.

You wouldn’t be the only person to consider merry old Father Christmas and say, wow, he could afford to drop a little heftiness. Passing on mince pies and cakes would help — he must consume a few tons each December. Diabetes, heart attacks– all too feasible for old Santa Claus , I fear.

Custom states that each and every family that celebrates Xmas ought to leave out a snack and a little tipple for Santa Claus every Christmas– so every December, Saint Nick wolfs down mincemeat pies, chocolate biscuits, X-mas pudding and shortcake, around the planet . To wash it all down afterwards, he also gets chilled glasses of milk, pints of Guinness, shooters of sherry and steaming mugs of hot chocolate.

Not exactly cucumber sticks and a glass of water , right ? Three hundred billion calories isn’t exactly the suggested day-to-day quota for an aging man, even a magic man!
But it appears that his stomach neither shrinks nor increases each year, even with how much calorie content he must gulp down, each Christmas Night . It’s a mystery how he manages to sustain such a steady (if just a bit below par) body weight.

Well, the answer is, the same as everybody else: physical activity, and lots of it.
27,000 trifling tons of increased body weight is not sufficient to detain Father Xmas from finishing his job . He combats his increasing waistline by jogging up and down between his sleigh and uncountable chimneys, climbing over rooftops and carrying sacks of goodies– and by the time the sun rises, he will have sweated off more than 100 billion calories.

So if you have ever asked yourself where old Saint Nick spends his time between Christmases, then puzzle no more. He’s getting busy in the gym, pumping iron and taking on the treadmill, to make certain that he will be back to full fitness and ready to do it all again next December
When they’re not calculating Santa’s Christmas weight gain, Virginia Hayward are proud producers of high-quality Christmas Hampers. Give your loved ones a special gift this Christmas.

Christmas seasons come and go, and so do the usual run-of-the-mill gifts and toys. Would you like to wow your friends and family with awesome, original and unique gifts that they will not hide away in a closet or forget after 2 weeks? Here are some tips for great gifts that will please every time.

1. Use your natural talents

Are you a knitter, a painter, a poet or a good cook? Draw on these talents and use them for awesome gifts. An original, hand-knitted pair of mittens will always trump the store-bought ones. Give the gift of a portrait or a poem about someone. You can also offer little books with your favourite recipes (and those that people love you to make) or give jars filled with layered dry ingredients for baking.

2. Go shopping with the person

Invite your gift recipient for an afternoon of shopping. Take a mental note of what they like and what they don’t, especially if they see something that they really want but say they can’t or won’t buy. That’s usually a great idea for a gift. Ask strategic questions like: “what color would you wear this in” or “have you seen this item? What do you think?” You can learn a lot about a person while shopping with them, especially if it’s aimless, general shopping.

3. Ask around

If you’re really stuck on gift ideas for someone, ask their friends and loved ones. Those who spend the most time with them are usually the best people to tell you what they would like as gifts. Think about their lifestyle, hobbies and interests and fit the gift to the person. Health nuts won’t go for fast food restaurant coupons, that’s for sure!

4. Offer your time and services

In this tough economy, some people might not be able to afford expensive gifts. A great way to get around this is to offer self-gift certificates. If your giftee is a new mum, offer babysitting or house cleaning for free. Are you a good car mechanic? Offer to check up on your friends’ cars before they head to the garage. Any special or useful talent that you have and that can save your friends time and money will be deeply appreciated.

5. If in doubt, go with the gift card

Gift cards are a bit of a cop-out, but very few people are actually unhappy with gift cards. They let you choose your own item. Gift cards are especially effective if they are specialised: avoid general stores like Amazon and offer something more specific instead. Restaurant gift cards for foodies, craft stores gift cards for crafters… you get the idea. And a little hand-written note is always a good personalisation strategy!

Whether you go for Christmas hampers or for handmade gifts, always try to fit the gift to the person. And most decent people won’t care about the price if the gift is thoughtful. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and think outside of the gift box!
